I'm working on the pattern pieces for the free doll bedding pattern

The pattern pieces are slowly making their way into my computer. I find that most pieces are too large to be printed and these will need to be cut to size. The blanket, the summer sheet and the duvet are those pieces. But as you can see, the other ones are ready. Now I'm starting on the sewing description....

Free Doll Bedding pattern for Ikea Duktig doll bed

The winter set is a bit smaller than the summer set : ) It uses the same mattress, pillows, mattress coversheet and has a reversible duvet.

The duvet is soft and fluffy and can actually be tucked in at the edges if needed, I wanted it  to be that big : ). For smaller girls this is a lovely piece because it's so easy to use.

This pattern is not especially designed to be sewn by young seamstresses but I feel that most of these items can be sewn by younger seamstresses, with some help of course. The last two pieces, that I'm making, will be more complicated and will require some skills.

I think that I will complete this part of the pattern first because the summer and winter bedding items are all easy to make and that way everyone can start : ). The last 2 pieces will follow later.

Zapf® BABY Born® dolls fit beautifully in the Ikea Duktig Doll Bed.

When I bought the Ikea Duktig doll bed I did not realize that the Zapf® BABY Born® dolls would fit so well in the bed. I knew that the length was correct but sometimes these things come together even better than expected, this is one of those times.

BABY Born® doll all tucked in and ready to sleep.

As you can see, with the doll in the bed, there is enough fabric in the sheet and blanket to tuck her in. This was something that I always liked as a child, that the bedding was large enough so I could tuck my 'baby' in. And that is something that I felt was very important for this pattern.

I used minkee fabric for the little blanket. It's a pretty heavy weight knit fabric but it's not at all stiff. It forms well and looks a little more natural. The duvet/comforter is next and that will be quite a different story : )

Mijn Zapf BABY Born popje is helemaal klaar voor de nacht. Toen ik het bedje kocht wist ik niet zeker of het wel helemaal mooi zou zijn, de lengte was goed dat wist ik wel, maar dat Zapf BABY Born® poppen zo mooi in het Ikea bedje zouden passen, dat wist ik niet. Soms moet je een beetje geluk hebben : )

Zoals je ziet, kan de pop fijn ingestopt worden. Het lakentje en de deken zijn breed en lang genoeg. Dat vond ik toen ik klein was altijd fijn: dat de 'baby' goed ingestopt kon worden : ) en dat wilde ik voor dit patroon natuurlijk dan ook zeker.

Voor het dekentje heb ik een heel soepele gebreide maar toch zware stof gebruikt, minkee, dan valt het het dekentje mooi en is niet zo stijf. Ik ga nu het dekbed maken en daar zal het een beetje anders zijn : )

The Free Doll Bedding Pattern Summer Set is finished.

The bright and happy summer part of the Free Doll Bedding Pattern is finished.

The summer set consists of:
- a flat sheet to cover the mattress
- a white flat sheet with a wide hem in a print fabric
- a reversible blanket
- two fluffy pillows with different front and back.

Free Doll Bedding Pattern, rotatable flat sheet.

The mattress cover sheet is 'rotatable' and will work for both the summer and winter set. Tomorrow I will add photo's with the doll in her bed, yes, in case you are wondering, the Zapf® BABY Born® dolls fit beautifully in this bed. It's a very cute sight.

Het frisse en vrolijke zomer beddengoed is klaar.

Gratis Poppen Beddengoed Patroon, Zomersetje is klaar.

Het zomersetje bestaat uit:
- een gekleurd onderlaken uit 4 vlakken
- een wit lakentje met gekleurde strip voor de bovenkant
- een dekentje dat aan twee kanten gebruikt kan worden
- twee kussens die ook aan de voor- en achterkant verschillend zijn

Het hoeslakentje kun je omdraaien voor de winter

Het onderlaken kun je omdraaien en dan komt de 'winterkant' boven te liggen. Morgen zal ik foto's maken van de pop in haar bedje. En ja, mocht je het je afvragen, Zapf® BABY Born® poppen passen perfect in dit bedje. Het is een heel schattig gezicht.

Creating the mattress. Cut layers of fiberfill until you have total height of 6cm

To create the mattress, you start with cutting fiberfill layers that fit exactly in the bed. The inside bed is 48cm x 31cm. You keep adding layers until you have 6cm in total height. For me this was three layers. I like mattresses that are very lofty : )

The fiberfill doll bed mattress is covered with fabric. This is the summer side.

I covered the doll bed mattress with the fabrics from my free fabric bundle : ) and as you can see it's an amazing bundle. Because my fat quarters are directional and I did not want to use the fabric sideways, I had to add strips to the top and the bottom. It works out fine.

This is the other side of the mattress, the winter side.

To secure the fiberfill layers and prevent them from shifting around inside, I stitched 6 buttons through the mattress, front to back. The actual pattern will be available later.... 

Ikea Doll Bed ready for new bedding

A few weeks ago I ordered a Silhouette Cameo machine. I use this machine most days and needed an additional one for when I'm scrapping at my friends house so I don't have to keep unhooking mine.

The machine I ordered had a special offer for 3 free fat quarters. To my great surprise, when it arrived it had three BUNDLES of fat quarters, so I received 75 fat quarters with a value of some $150. This was obviously an error and, even though I really wanted to keep the fabric, I emailed about the mistake and was ready to ship the fabrics back.

To my even greater surprise I received a lovely email from the company thanking me for my honesty and it said "please keep the extra bundles and enjoy the fabric" : ) ... Needless to say, I had a great day!

Why am I telling you all this? Well, I have decided to use the fabric to make a doll bedding pattern and I will give this pattern out for free download. Since not everyone can make a wooden doll bed, I have bought the Ikea Duktig bed and will make the pattern especially for that size. The Ikea doll bed is not exactly cheap, it's $25, but it is real wood and with the extras that I'll be making, it should make a very nice gift : )

Eerlijkheid duurt het langst. Een paar weken geleden bestelde ik een elektronische snijmachine. Er was een speciale aanbieding en ik kreeg 3 gratis 'fat quarters'. Dat zijn stukjes stof van precies een kwart yard.

Toen de machine arriveerde zaten er niet 3 fat quarters in de doos maar 3 bundeltjes van 25. Ik had dus 75 stofjes gekregen en zo'n $150 aan gratis stof.

Dit was duidelijk een fout en al wilde ik de stof heel erg graag houden, ik heb het bedrijf gemaild en verteld dat ik veel teveel had gekregen en de stofjes lagen klaar om weer teruggestuurd te worden.

Tot mijn grote verbazing kreeg ik een hele vriendelijke email waarin ik bedankt werd voor mijn eerlijkheid en ik mocht de stofjes houden en heel veel plezier met mijn bundeltjes. Dat was echt meteen een geweldige dag!

Maar waarom vertel ik dit nu allemaal? Ik heb besloten om met de stof een poppenbedje aan te kleden en het patroon van het beddengoed wordt een gratis download. Omdat niet iedereen zelf een houten bedje kan maken heb ik het Ikea Duktig bedje gekocht en daar ga ik alles voor maken. Het bedje is niet echt goedkoop* maar ik hoop met alle dingetjes die ik ervoor ga maken, dat het een leuk cadeautje zal zijn.
