On my way to producing a new set of clothes for my BABY Born doll I thought it would be nice to knit a pair of socks.
I love knitting as well as sewing, I hope you'll love them as much as I do!
Groetjes,
Liane

And hooray, here we are at 10 Wollyonline Team Members! Barbro is her name and let's get to know her a little better : )
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm Barbro from Norway, 51 years old, married, mother of two grown up children & a spoiled cat. I live in a small village near the Atlantic Road, a beautiful part of the country.
How old were you when you started sewing?
I have been sewing as long as I can remember, and I think I must have been about 5 years old the first time I used my mum's white Husqvarna 2000
What started your sewing career?
My sewing career was bound to happen, as my grandmother was a seamstress, and my mother was very skilled too. My grandmother did sew to feed her family, my mum to dress herself, my sister and me. I'm sewing because I love to, it's my hobby & my passion.
What was the first thing you made?
I can't remember the first thing I made, but I suppose it must have been something for my Barbie. The first time I did sew, I do remember. My mum allowed me to zigzag around the parts of a pair of pants she made me. The machine was set on slow speed, and mum taught me how to control the material and the machine. A big moment for a little girl!
What are your favorite things to sew?
My favorite things to sew changes all the time. I tend to make 5 or 10 of each item before I get fed up. I make bags, blankets, draw string bags, box pouches, girls dresses, doll clothes etc. What I love to do is to make something new from something old, and I got quite a bit of clothes, curtains, bed linen etc in my storage.
What would you love to never ever sew again?
I once upholstered a sofa, and that was not something I liked to do!
Who is/are the main recipient(s) of your sewn items?
I sell the things I make at markets and in my friends yarn store.
What is something that you always wanted to make but haven’t yet?
I would love to make a fabulous wedding dress, or an amazing ball gown. Unfortunately I don't have the skills I need to do that - yet :)
What was your biggest sewing project to date?
It's the sofa project.
What was the most important sewing project to date?
The project that has meant most to me is a quilt I made for the local nursing home. It's made in white & off-white tones, and I gathered all kinds of fabric before I started sewing. It's a simple quilt made from squares, and in it lies the history of many lives since the squares are cut from the things like sleeves of a wedding dress, the shirt of a groom, embroidered table cloths, curtains from a different era, the 50's dress of an old aunt etc. For me that was the right thing to do since the quilt was going to be used for showings.
What was the last thing you finished?
The last thing I finished was a cushion cover. I made it from material with maritime print.
Were you happy with the result?
Yes I am since it got a zipper, and zippers can be a bit scary to work with : )
What was the last thing you had to throw out because it failed desperately?
It was a Japanese knot bag. Easy to sew if instructions are followed. I thought I didn't need to, and that did not work out at all.
Could it have been saved?
Yes it could, but I gave myself the luxury of throwing it away instead of getting mad over seam ripping.
What was your first sewing machine?
My first sewing machine was given to me by my uncle, and it was the old hand crank type.
I absolutely loved it, and I'm sure I stitched my way half way around the world with it.
What machines(s) do you use these days?
My main machine is a 20 year old Pfaff Tiptronic 6270. I fear the day it'll be worn out, because I don't know what machine could replace it. I also got a serger, Elna 654. I've spent hours cursing over the threading, but I still wouldn't want to be without it. The last addition to the family is a Janome 350e embroidery machine. We are working on becoming friends 😊
Which on is your favourite?
My favourite is my Pfaff machine, no doubt!
What other crafts do you do?
I knit, crochet, and also I love to upcycle all kinds of items.

Pinafore with balloon skirt and pants |
Spring is in the air! It's time for a new outfit.
Two weeks ago Christel placed the link to a free pattern of a lovely pinafore with balloon skirt and pants (which you can find here). I therefore made you an example of this pattern.
I really love the balloon skirt and the round top of the dress! I first made one set with two different fabrics as with the dress and pants at the pattern.
-----------
I also made another combination with this pattern: The pinafore with one fabric and the pants with another, matching fabric. Do you like that too?

....with a T-shirt for the colder days |
I finished this set with a white T-shirt. Because its spring and we can have some colder days too. You can find the pattern of this T-shirt on one of my most favourite patterns: the Flower Girl pattern

Sewing for dolls is such a pleasant job!
Small pieces of fabric, small buttons and tiny pieces of ribbon and elastic, I love it. Most doll clothes are cute, pink and girly. My daughters always loved (and my youngest still loves) pink and cuteness.
But I also have a two year old son playing with dolls and although he thinks pink is OK (and so it is) I thought it would be nice to sew something more neutral. Because I am a new blogger here I chose the Boys Basics Pattern, BD1612. I started with cutting out the paper pattern pieces.
It is very easy to find the right pieces because all parts are numbered. I found a nice piece of fabric in my closet for a dungarees. It has a blue and white checkered pattern. It looks like cotton but it's definitely a mix.
After I cut all pieces out of fabric the sewing can begin. Because it isn't a stretch fabric it is very easy to sew.
After a little time it already looks like a dungarees!
Because it isn't summer yet I found it necessary to also make a shirt. I had a nice white jersey fabric I wanted to use. It was a small piece but large enough for this purpose.
At the end I made a nice hat that my daughter wanted me to make and so I did : ). I also used the white jersey for this little project, and don't you think he lookscute nice?

How old were you when you started sewing?
I was about ten years old. My mother taught me how to sew.

What was the first thing you made?
A Barbie Doll skirt.
What are your favorite things to sew?
Clothes for my children and dolls clothes.
What would you love to never ever sew again?
Anything for Barbie Dolls. It is to small too handle for me.

My children again.
What is something that you always wanted to make but haven’t yet?
A nice dress for myself, and boys clothes for a doll.
What was your biggest sewing project to date?
It is not very big, but I made a short pair of trousers for my daughter, it was a lot of work with many pockets, but it turned out very well. And I was very happy with the outcome.
What was the most important sewing project to date?
I could not mention one thing especially. But I made a little quilt once and I was very proud of it. I was about 17 years old.
What was the last thing you finished?
A Baby BORN dress and trousers.
Were you happy with the result?
Very happy.
What was the last thing you had to throw out because it failed desperately?
A Barbie Doll jacket. I threw it away because is was too small to handle.
Could it have been saved?
No, it was too small and I was ready to throw it away.
What was your first sewing machine?
A Husqvarna Viking
What machines(s) do you use these days?
Still a Husqvarna but this one is modern and has a computer.
Which on is your favourite?
My new Husqvarna, but I still have the old one and it is still working, occasionally I use the old machine.
What other crafts do you do?
I have many hobbies: I sew, crochet, knit and so on. Working in the garden is also something I like to do. But crocheting and knitting are my biggest hobbies.

Hooray Spring is on its way : )
Spring is on it's way and that is a very good reason to sew a nice new outfit Baby BORN. I decided on happy blue flower fabric with coordinating pink. Both fabrics are 100% cotton. It may be spring but this is Holland and I find that some days it's still a bit chilly in the mornings so when we have one of these days I made sure that she has a warm fleece coat.
We are ready for some lovely days, going out and riding our bikes : )
All patterns are part of the Wollyonline Flower Girl pattern.
Groetjes,
Marij
Here is my first sewing project as blog member : )
I used the Dressing up! (BD1611) pattern for 43cm dolls.
I used a mix of these two farm girl outfits.
A few fabric remnants surely are enough to make the outfit.
I think they look nice together, don't you?
I now have to draw the patterns onto paper, this is something that I don't like all that much but I have to to be able to start. (Christel Note: the drawing no longer applies to the new digital patterns. These you only have to print and cut.)
After drawing the pattern pieces onto paper, I cut them from the fabrics I picked.
I love sewing, so for me the real fun job starts now.
The hat was the first thing I finished. After that the skirt and here you see the pinafore.
And look everything is finished! Please say "Hi." to my farm girl.
My next project is already waiting for me. (A farm boy perhaps?)
Groetjes,
Liane

In my first contribution to this page I want to adress use
of materials. I don’t know how you do this, but I rarely buy fabric especially
for making dolls clothes. Whenever I sew clothing for myself or one of my
children, of course I try to lay the pattern onto the fabric as a thrifty as
possible. Typically Dutch ! As a result, you end up with a piece of clothing
and a piece of fabric, a shame to throw away. I’m sure I can make something out
of that one time. Are you familiar with that feeling?
A bag full of scraps... or tons of dolls clothes waiting to be made |
Once there was a birthday dress, now there are shorts |
Of course, there needs to be a tunic shirt too. Patterns E and H from BD1614 Sunny Days |
Lucky for me, now I can be a blogger for Wollyonline. I got
out my stash of fabric and made the first dresses as an official blogger. As a bonus, I decided to start a blog of my own too, MariekeMadeThis.
Greetings, Marieke
Groetjes, Marieke
Hi everyone who is reading the Wollyonline blog. Here is my first story about sewing for dolls. It's exciting and at the same time I also feel a little nervous.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to Claire and her doggie Saar. They are best friends, they even take showers together : )
Claire told me that she needs new pajamas and so we went to look for some nice pieces of cotton. And how wonderful, we found some great fabrics in the box at the attic. Now this is quite the selection!
Shall I make a bathrobe too? A Warm and cozy fleece one, just for you? Claire did not want a pink one. Well, blue it is.
In between I asked Claire to show the result of my sewing challenge. "Hey, Claire why are you turned around?". "I'm a bit shy when everyone sees me in my underwear or pants." She answered. I tried and tried but Claire didn't want to turn around before she was wearing her bathrobe.
So I sewed and sewed and yes when it was ready, she was very happy to turn around and show her new pajamas and bathrobe. She even helped with pinning the fabric.
After some time (weeks oops) the nightwear is finished. Claire is so happy with her new pajamas and bathrobe she asked for another pair for her Friend Jaylee.
And it shows that Christel's patterns can be used for an American Girl doll too. You just have to think about their lovely behinds. Jaylee's is a little fuller than Claire's. Ssshhht don't tell the girls Please.
The Wollyonline pattern I used in this post is the Goodnight Girl pattern for 50cm dolls.
Hugs from the girls and hopefully we will meet again,
Anita
