One of my all time favorite Wollyonline patterns is BD 1302
Summer Hearts, for 36 cm dolls. I bought this pattern when my daughter was two
years old, and it has countless little holes on the pattern where I pinned it
to the fabric. Our first doll was My First Baby Annabelle, a cute soft doll
that is safe for young children. Later, Annabelle got an older sister, Lindy.
Lindy is a Girly Chou Chou doll that has a body similar to that of Annabelle,
but with long hair and sleepy eyes. Since we’ve got two dolls sized 36 cm, I
made lots of clothes using BD1302.
This time I made shorts, t-shirts and matching bandana’s for
Lindy and Annabelle. There were lots of colourful fabric in my closet, so “mix
and match”. The nice thing about Summer Hearts is that using just one
pattern, you can make three types of pants: shorts, longer pants with ruffled legs and shorts
with a contrasting strip and a cord on the pant legs. Today I made pants F, the
easiest model. I used solid green and orangje stretchy fabric, because I wanted
something else than pink.
The first t-shirt was made of white cotton with blue and
green flowers. This fabric has no stretch in it, but I made the neck strip a
bit smaller (3 cm instead of 4) and made sure that the back was wide enough. I
decorated this shirt with a bird applique. This was iron-on, but to be on the safe
side I stitched it on. Shirt number 2 was made out of cotton with a print of
Finding Nemo. I fitted the print in the middle of the front panel, and cut the
sleeves and back panel around the fishes. As decoration, I used ric rac braid.
Both shirts have velcro in the back, I used white for shirt 1 and blue for
shirt 2.
Bandana is very useful to hide a bad hairday. |
Finishing touch were the bandana’s. Those are really easy to
make and can be used in different ways: as head-scarf, like the pattern
suggests, but also worn around the neck, tied in the front or the back, as a
bow around Lindy’s ponytail, as a skirt… That’s not how the pattern is
intended, but doll mothers and -fathers can used their own creativity with
this.
Bandana can also be used as a bib, or as a headband.. your imagination is the limit! |
Smaller dolls do not have as many patterns as the 43 cm
ones, but I’d like to show here that Summer Hearts is versatile and fun for
baby dolls as well as girly dolls.
These sets are on sale in my Etsy shop MariekeMadeThis

Onze eerste pop was
My First Baby Annabelle, een schattig zacht popje zonder beweegbare oogjes dus
brengen. En natuurlijk die van de pop!
-------
Within two montht’s summer holidays time again! So
still some time to pepare our vacation wardrobe . And of
course the wardrobe of the doll too!
------
On the Summer fun pattern (BD1603) for 43 cm dolls are all kinds of
fun summer dresses, a Sun Hat and lovely sandals ..... which you can make
yourself!!
------
After I had made a dress and a pair of troussers, in 2
different summer fabrics, I chose another matching third fabric for the Sun
hat. And with that same fabric I started with the Sandals. The only thing
additional need is craft foam. I used white foam with a wave pattern (ridges)
and smooth red foam. You only need a small piece of fabric for the band on the foot and the heel band
casing (with a piece of elastic band)
Even
------
You start with the heel band casing: fold the strap as
biais tape and topstich close to the edge. Pull the elastic band trough the
casing and stitch at each end to keep the elastic in place.
hielbandjes ertussenuit, vast.
------
Fold the footband double, turn under the seam
allowance and stitch down with the edges of the heel band in the marked places.
------
I also stiched the edge of the fold, because I found it more beautiful .
stoffen bandje toch goed vast.
-------
Then you cut
the craft foam in the shape of the sole. I made 3 layers per sole: 2 white
soles and 1 red in the middle. I first sewed the footband to the red, middle
sole. Then I glued the white soles on the red sole top and bottem. The
stitching is not visible, but the footband very good attached. I used mounting
kit that dries transparent. Press down well (I used pegs) and your sandals are ready.

On my way to producing a new set of clothes for my BABY Born doll I thought it would be nice to knit a pair of socks.
I love knitting as well as sewing, I hope you'll love them as much as I do!

And hooray, here we are at 10 Wollyonline Team Members! Barbro is her name and let's get to know her a little better : )
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm Barbro from Norway, 51 years old, married, mother of two grown up children & a spoiled cat. I live in a small village near the Atlantic Road, a beautiful part of the country.
How old were you when you started sewing?
I have been sewing as long as I can remember, and I think I must have been about 5 years old the first time I used my mum's white Husqvarna 2000
What started your sewing career?
My sewing career was bound to happen, as my grandmother was a seamstress, and my mother was very skilled too. My grandmother did sew to feed her family, my mum to dress herself, my sister and me. I'm sewing because I love to, it's my hobby & my passion.
What was the first thing you made?
I can't remember the first thing I made, but I suppose it must have been something for my Barbie. The first time I did sew, I do remember. My mum allowed me to zigzag around the parts of a pair of pants she made me. The machine was set on slow speed, and mum taught me how to control the material and the machine. A big moment for a little girl!
What are your favorite things to sew?
My favorite things to sew changes all the time. I tend to make 5 or 10 of each item before I get fed up. I make bags, blankets, draw string bags, box pouches, girls dresses, doll clothes etc. What I love to do is to make something new from something old, and I got quite a bit of clothes, curtains, bed linen etc in my storage.
What would you love to never ever sew again?
I once upholstered a sofa, and that was not something I liked to do!
Who is/are the main recipient(s) of your sewn items?
I sell the things I make at markets and in my friends yarn store.
What is something that you always wanted to make but haven’t yet?
I would love to make a fabulous wedding dress, or an amazing ball gown. Unfortunately I don't have the skills I need to do that - yet :)
What was your biggest sewing project to date?
It's the sofa project.
What was the most important sewing project to date?
The project that has meant most to me is a quilt I made for the local nursing home. It's made in white & off-white tones, and I gathered all kinds of fabric before I started sewing. It's a simple quilt made from squares, and in it lies the history of many lives since the squares are cut from the things like sleeves of a wedding dress, the shirt of a groom, embroidered table cloths, curtains from a different era, the 50's dress of an old aunt etc. For me that was the right thing to do since the quilt was going to be used for showings.
What was the last thing you finished?
The last thing I finished was a cushion cover. I made it from material with maritime print.
Were you happy with the result?
Yes I am since it got a zipper, and zippers can be a bit scary to work with : )
What was the last thing you had to throw out because it failed desperately?
It was a Japanese knot bag. Easy to sew if instructions are followed. I thought I didn't need to, and that did not work out at all.
Could it have been saved?
Yes it could, but I gave myself the luxury of throwing it away instead of getting mad over seam ripping.
What was your first sewing machine?
My first sewing machine was given to me by my uncle, and it was the old hand crank type.
I absolutely loved it, and I'm sure I stitched my way half way around the world with it.
What machines(s) do you use these days?
My main machine is a 20 year old Pfaff Tiptronic 6270. I fear the day it'll be worn out, because I don't know what machine could replace it. I also got a serger, Elna 654. I've spent hours cursing over the threading, but I still wouldn't want to be without it. The last addition to the family is a Janome 350e embroidery machine. We are working on becoming friends 😊
Which on is your favourite?
My favourite is my Pfaff machine, no doubt!
What other crafts do you do?
I knit, crochet, and also I love to upcycle all kinds of items.

Pinafore with balloon skirt and pants |
Spring is in the air! It's time for a new outfit.
Two weeks ago Christel placed the link to a free pattern of a lovely pinafore with balloon skirt and pants (which you can find here). I therefore made you an example of this pattern.
I really love the balloon skirt and the round top of the dress! I first made one set with two different fabrics as with the dress and pants at the pattern.
-----------
I also made another combination with this pattern: The pinafore with one fabric and the pants with another, matching fabric. Do you like that too?

....with a T-shirt for the colder days |
I finished this set with a white T-shirt. Because its spring and we can have some colder days too. You can find the pattern of this T-shirt on one of my most favourite patterns: the Flower Girl pattern
