What is a BABY Born® doll?

What is a BABY Born® (or Babyborn) doll and what does she look like? BABY Born® is a doll that is manufactured by Zapf Creations®. Below you see two of my original BABY Born® dolls.

43cm Zapf® BABY Born® Dolls

BABY Born® dolls are fully plastic and vinyl and they are 43cm tall. As you can see in the pictures there are differences. The dark doll is and older BABY Born® and the light one is a newer version.
What are the differences between the older and newer version? Let me see, both are on the table in front of me.

* The new BABY Born® has eyelashes, the old one doesn't.

* The new BABY Born® doll has eyes that close, the old one doesn't

* The new doll's head is a little smaller.

* When the old BABY Born® stands, the feet touch.

* The new BABY Born® can also be a boy, like mine, the old one cannot.

* The older BABY Born® has 4 holes in its back the newer version has a screw.

Even though there are all these differences, the dolls' measurements are the same and they will fit exactly the same clothes.

For the Wollyonline 36cm and 46cm patterns I use Zapf® Annabell® dolls, please note that I'm not affiliated with Zapf® in any way.

What is an Annabell® doll?

Annabell® dolls are manufactured by Zapf Creations®, the same manufacturer that also makes the BABY Born® dolls. The dolls in the photo are my personal Annabell® dolls. You used to be able to recognize them by the 'short' fabric arms and relative long vinyl arms but the newer Chou Chou® dolls also have these arms and legs. Now you can recognize them by their faces.

46cm & 36cm Zapf® Annabell Dolls®

The large doll (46cm) is the most well known of the two. There are various versions of this doll, some make sounds, move their mouths while others don't but they all have 1 thing in common and that is the size. All 46cm Annabell® dolls are the same size, have the same measurements and can wear the same clothes.

The smaller doll is 36cm and this My First Annabell® is a smaller version of the larger doll. She also has the shorter fabric arms and legs and she can wear short sleeves.

The Annabell® doll faces change from time to time but the measurements have stayed the same over the years.

Look what I found! I'm setting up the new Wollyonline website and in my files I found another free pattern. It will fit Little BABY Born dolls 32cm and dolls of similar size. This was part of a free gift to a doll club some time late last year : )

I had forgotten all about it but here it is. It's only in Dutch, sorry, it was a Dutch doll club : )

Measuring Dolls for Wollyonline Doll Patterns

You will need to take all measurements shown in the picture above, or the list below. Once you have those, you can look at which patterns are suitable for your doll.

1) Total Height: head to toe in cm
2) Chest: under the armpits over the shoulder blades and across the chest in cm
3) Waist: around the waist in cm
4) Hip: around the fullest part of the hips in cm
5) Neck to Waist: from the cervical to the waistline in cm
6) Inside Leg: from the crotch to the soles in cm
7) Arm & Shoulder Length: from the side of the neck to the wrist bone in cm
8) Head Circumference: around the head right above the ears in cm

 

Which Patterns are suitable for my doll?

All Wollyonline patterns are created to fit a certain 'height' doll. This doll height is the total height: top of the head to soles of the feet. Patterns suitable for 43cm dolls are created to fit dolls of 43cm total height.

 

The correct size isn't there?

Choose a larger/smaller pattern when: the chest/waist/hip of your doll is larger or smaller. These differences will immediately result in doll clothes that are either too small or too large and are very hard to change.

Choose the pattern anyway when: all sizes are correct BUT the inside leg or arm & shoulder are shorter/longer. This is the sleeve and pants length and this is easy to change by adding or taking away seam allowance.

My oh my, I have had a few very crazy days, the server that hosts the Wollyonline website was hacked and these bad people put all sorts of crazy stuff up there. This unfortunately happens sometimes, I don't understand why people do this but it is a fact of web-life.

Please do not worry, your payment information is safe, all this is handled by PayPal and has nothing to do with the website. Payments are completely separate for that exact reason.

As a result, I'm now building a completely new Wollyonline shop, on a separate server and that is why Wollyonline.com cannot be reached at this point. You can always reach me at: crhistel.wollyonline@gmail.com

Many of you have contacted me asking when there will be new patterns? Why is is so quiet? Why do we not hear from you? In short: I have a job. That is where I have been and that is what I have been doing : )

When I came back from California my life in Houston all of a sudden seemed a bit empty. The only thing that I felt I was doing was play tennis and have lunch with my friends. It simply didn't feel right anymore. After you accomplish so many different things, it's hard to go back to a life where the main accomplishment is winning a league tennis match.

I played tennis most days for 10 years and it was enough. I needed a change. The same week I came to that conclusion, my boss from the organization where I volunteer sent me an email asking how I was doing. One chat and an interview later, I had a job.

ETO Systems Administrator, that is my new title and I officially work 20 hours a week. Right now it's a bit more because we are making some changing to the system but it will be 20 hours a week once all is set up.

And that is what I have been doing: working. After 15 years of not working, I'm now at a desk working at the computer and I lOVE IT! Once the work slows down a little I will start working on Wollyonline again but now it's all work-work I'm afraid.

Veel klanten hebben me de afgelopen tijd gevraagd: Wanneer komen er weer nieuwe patronen? waarom horen we niets meer van je? Waarom is het zo stil? In het kort: Ik heb een baan. Daarom is het zo stil en dat ben ik aan het doen : )

Toen we uit Californië terugkwamen, leek mijn leven in Houston ineens een beetje saai. Ik had het gevoel dat het enige dat ik alleen tenniste en lunchte met mijn vriendinnen. Het voelde allemaal niet zo lekker. Nadat je zoveel bereikt hebt in een paar maanden, dan is het moeilijk om zomaar weer terug in een leven te stappen waar een tennis wedstrijd winnen het enige is dat je bereikt.

10 jaar lang heb ik vrijwel elke dag op de baan gestaan en het was voldoende. Ik wilde iets anders met mijn leven. Dezelfde week dat ik dat bedacht, kreeg ik een email van mijn baas bij de vrijwilligers organisatie waar ik al 7 jaar als vrijwilliger werk. Een gesprek en interview later en ik had een baan.

ETO Systeem Beheerder, dat ben ik nu en ik werk officieel 20 uur per week. Op het moment is het meer omdat ik veranderingen in het systeem aan het aanbrengen ben maar als dat allemaal klaar is, dan is het 20 uur per week.

Dus dat is wat ik aan het doen ben, werken. Na 15 jaar niet echt gewerkt te hebben zit ik nu op een kantoor achter een computer en ik vind het geweldig! Zodra de uren wat minder worden ga ik weer met de patronen aan de slag maar tot die tijd is het allemaal officieel werk ben ik bang.

Vacation home living room

It's been a while but I'm back in Houston again. Our vacation home is finished, you can see the living/dining room above, with a much deserved glass of wine on the table!

It was an astounding amount of work and I'm so glad that my parents were there to help. When we arrived there was nothing, no kitchen, no bathrooms, not even interior doors. Yes, It was very much like camping.

Fortunately, my dad is very handy and he put in the kitchen, the doors, both bathrooms and everything else. He also built the pump house and so on and so forth, it seemed like a task that would never ever end. Uhm, my role in this: I was more the gopher... very good at fetching things : )

Now it's back to regular work, first I have the silent auction for the church and then the free doll pattern for the Sancho Day, after that it will be time for Wollyonline again, phew.

Het heeft even geduurd, zo'n 3,5 maanden, maar ik ben eindelijk weer thuis in Houston. Het vakantiehuisje is klaar! Hierboven zie je de woon/eetkamer met een goed glas wijn op tafel, errug verdiend! Het was een ongelofelijke hoeveelheid werk.

Toen we er kwamen was er niets, geen keuken, geen badkamers, zelfs geen binnendeuren. Het was primitief kamperen. Gelukkig waren allebei mijn ouders erbij want zonder hen was het nooit gelukt.

Mijn vader is heel erg handig, hij heeft de keuken geplaatst, badkamers gemaakt. Vensterbanken, plinten, deuren en deuromkastingen zijn ook allemaal van zijn hand. Daarna ook nog de garage afgewerkt, het beschermhuis om de bron, we halen ons eigen water uit de grond, het houthok en ga zo maar door. Het is een plaatje geworden.

 Nu gaan we weer met de gewone dingen aan de gang, eerst de bazaar van de kerk waar ik dit jaar weer de veiling doe, daarna het Sancho patroon voor de ledendag en dan is Wollyonline aan de beurt.

Fijn om weer terug te zijn : )

I know it's very quiet on the blog and the website, it's because our little log cabin is taking shape and we have to make a gazillion decisions. I had no idea it would all be so intense : ) It's a luxury problem, what can I say. The cabin looks large in the photo : ), it's only 840 sq feet.... and still all those decisions.

Het is heel stil op het blog en de website, ik weet het. Het komt omdat het kleine huisje op de berg aardig vooruit gaat en we moeten allerlei beslissing nemen over werkelijk alles. Ik had geen idee dat het zo intens is om een huisje te bouwen.

Het lijkt een mooie villa op de foto maar het is klein, 75 vierkante meter en dan toch zoveel beslissingen : )

En hier is dan het kant en klare Labello zakje of hoesje met clip. Ik heb de clips op eBay gekocht want ik kon ze hier nergens vinden. Ze zijn mooi op tijd binnen want dit weekend ben ik op een scrapweekend voor het Ziekenhuis en ik geef iedereen een tasje met wat spulletjes en natuurlijk een Labello met hoesje : ) Hieronder staat de beschrijving voor het hoesje.

Het logo heb ik gemaakt met strijk-vinyl en mijn Silhouette machine. Het tasje heb ik lekker gemakkelijk gekocht : 0

Dekker Log Home Site Sundown Court, Santa Rosa, CA

Happy New Year to all! This is a bit of what I will be doing in 2014....

Our honeymoon, some 17 years ago, was a 3 week trip to California and we fell in love... with each other all over again but also with California.

A few years after that, when we were living in Aberdeen, Scotland, my cousin called. We were talking about nothing and at one point she asked me: "where would you like to live for the rest of your life?". Without thinking for even a second, I replied: "California."

And would you believe it, our building permit for our little bit of 'CA' was approved right before Christmas and in 2014 we will be building a teeny tiny vacation log home. In the photo you see the start of the foundation. It's going to be small, only 840 sq ft (about 75 m2) but it's going to be my dream home.

Getting the vacation home ready will pretty much take up my first 6 months. Not in the least because my dad and I will be finishing the whole inside.. I'm talking: putting in the bathrooms, kitchen, floors, painting and such. Good thing my dad and I work very well together : )

I will try and get some free patterns out so you can all keep on sewing and maybe even a new one... yes, I have some things ready but it will be quite a while... I'm picking out an HVAC system right now, yawn : )

Phew, the Wollyonline website and the free pattern website are all up and running. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience the outage has caused : )

Yesterday was my birthday and I had plans for a free pattern but with everything that happened with all my websites, I also run websites for my charities... there was not enough time to get things done but not to worry a new free Wollyonline Doll Pattern is on the way.

An overwhelming number of requests are for a free pattern for 43cm dolls and so that is what I will be making tomorrow. This will be a pattern that was released earlier, sold in the shop but has not been seen for 2 years....

For now I'm relaxing in the Cafe ; )

Gisteren was ik jarig en ik had plannen voor een gratis patroon maar met alles wat er aan de hand was met de sites, ik run ook de websites voor mijn liefdadigheidsinstellingen, is het er niet van gekomen. Geen zorgen ik ga morgen aan het werk...

Een overweldigende meerderheid vraagt om gratis patronen voor poppen van 43cm en dat gaat er nu dus ook komen. Dit is een patroon dat vroeger te koop was maar het is al zo'n 2 jaar niet meer verkocht...

Unoa Lusis and BABY Born

So what do I do in my free time?.... Well, I play a lot of tennis.... and just like you, I like to sew doll clothes, ha, you never guessed : ). It's great fun to do, they are small. I love the way they look so tiny and cute.

When I was in Singapore I went to the Kinokuniya bookstore and I found some books on Ball Jointed Dolls. I had never seen these dolls before, they are dolls that look like cartoon people in a very flattering way.

Sewing small detailed doll clothes has always been on my wishlist and as soon as I saw these, I knew that these dolls would of course be perfect for sewing just that! Their proportions are fantastic for detailed sewing. So I bought a few pattern books, admittedly I'm already irritated with some of the designs : ) but still, when I got home I tried and managed to find a hybrid Unoa Lusis doll.

She arrived 'nekkid' without hair or eyes, I had to find those too, but here she is. Above you see my Unoa Lusis hybrid doll and our own BABY Born doll. Yes, they really are the same height. It's so strange to see them together. This massive baby and this small human.

And as you can see, my poor Unoa Lusis is in dire need of clothes and I will start sewing her a nice wardrobe tomorrow... I'll keep you posted.

The server transfer is complete. The Wollyonline website is now working from a newer, faster and better platform : )

It's all lovely except the fact that the download function is having fits, it will not work, I think it does not like its new home. That means that when you order, that I will send you the patterns in an email until we figure out what is causing this problem.

Some customers have been lovely and very understanding but please know that as long as the download function does not work, that I will give you your money back for patterns that I cannot send by email because they are too large.

De Wollyonline website is verhuisd naar een betere en snellere server. De verhuizing is compleet en het ziet er prima uit.

Er is 1 probleem, de patronen-download die meteen opengaat als je betaald hebt, die vindt het niet zo leuk in dit nieuwe huis.... en deze weigert op dit moment dienst. Dit betekent dat we even op de oude manier te werk gaan: ik stuur de patronen via een email toe.

Sommige klanten zijn heel aardig en begrijpen dat de techniek me soms even in de steek laat en ze willen best even wachten maar zodra een patroon-file te groot is om op te sturen via email, dan kun je er ook voor kiezen dat ik je geld terug stort via PayPal.

En zo prutsen we leuk door. Het gaat goed komen hoor, deze verhuizing is een verbetering... met wat haken en ogen : 0

Wollyonline started the move to a new server yesterday, it was time because we were still running on older windows servers, and as always not everything has gone across smoothly just yet.

The whole Wollyonline site is up and running on some computers and not working at all on others. Please hang in, all is on it's way but these things take time and we are not there just yet.

It has been a bit silent on the blog and that is because I was away to beautiful Singapore! My husband had 2 and half weeks of business there and I didn't want to be on my own, shhh don't tell him but I don't like to be without him for that long.

The trip getting there was LONG.... hours and hours of flying, I had a nice seat but it certainly was very very long. Yes, making a trip halfway around the world is a luxury and flying there is a luxury problem I realize : )

We used to live in Manila some 12 years ago and so I had been to Singapore before but I had forgotten how expensive everything is. Grief, in the hotel the buffet breakfast was $40, how can that possibly be? How can any breakfast cost that much?

The one thing that was great, was the hot tea. It comes just like in the UK in a little pot. I love hot tea with milk and here in Houston that is not very common so I had a tremendous time drinking tea.

I saw some beautiful sights and because it's a very safe place I could venture out on my own on the MRT everyday while Martijn was at work. I went to China Town and Little India where beautiful fabrics are sold... I didn't buy any... there were so many to choose from that I got confused... I really should have... too late.

The last few weeks I'm noticing more and more that my husband and I lead a very blessed life. I see my friends struggling with the economic downturn, some have to move to a new city for new job, they are the lucky ones since they have jobs. Some have to sell their house because they can no longer afford the crazy mortgage that seemed like a good idea a year or so ago but not so brilliant now that salaries have been frozen for a few years or jobs have been lost.

There are some girlfriends who can no longer stay at home, no, they have to start working. And none if this applies to me, yet! Oh, yes, I'm very much aware of the fact that one of these could apply to me any day, I'm in no way special and these things seem to be happening quite randomly and to good people.

Then there are more severe losses of family members who die too young, kids spiraling out of control and ending up in all sorts of serious trouble. It's amazing what all happens in your life and the lives of those around you when you look back just a few months.

It's not that everything was always easy for us, no, not exactly. There are no children and that was not our choice. Then a few years ago I had to deal with cancer, an easy cancer in my case, detected early and not a 'bad' one anyway, thyroid cancer. But still, that was a year of having my 'throat cut' 2x and sounding like Alvin from the chipmunks for 2 months and not sure if my voice ever would come back. All that is done and dusted.

And so, yes, there you have it, with all this behind us, my husband and I lead a very blessed life. This was something that I was thinking about today: "I'm happy in my life". I caught myself singing out loud in the car this morning and saying 'hi' to the lady next to me at the traffic light, a happy stranger and we both laughed.

Yes, yes, it will change, there will be some down days too, that's a given but a day like this, a beautiful moment like this, is golden for me! And now I have to get ready for my shoulder treatment, well, there had to be a little snag of course : ) but I'm going to sing in the car anyway. Today is just that kind of day.

Oh Dear! I made a mistake in the bean bag pattern for BDF002 The baby Room. Instead of drawing a circle with a diameter of 32cm I drew a circle with a radius of 32cm which causes the circle to be twice the size.

I'm an engineer and really should know better. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. I'm sending out the correct pattern piece to all customers in the next hour.

O jee, ik heb een fout gemaakt in de bodem van de zitzak. In plaats van een cirkel met een diameter van 32cm heb ik een cirkel met een straal van 32cm getekend en dat maakt de cirkel meer dan 2 keer zo groot!

Mijn oprechte excuses voor het ongemak. Ik zal de correcte bodem in het komende uur naar alle klanten sturen.

Ik ben een ingenieur, heb aan de TUE gestudeerd, en zou echt beter moeten weten maar helaas ben ik maar een mens, nogmaals mijn excuses.

Happy Easter to all!

My husband and I made a trip back home to Holland last week and it's nice to be back in warm Houston. Holland was cold, very cold. Quite a few records for cold weather were broken, how wonderful that we were there ; )

So far this has been one of those years where I cannot get ahead. Every time I think "OK, now I can start working again".... something happens. I'm a bit done with that and it's time to get going. My shoulder is doing quite well and so work will commence!

I wish you all a Happy Easter and a new digitized pattern should be there soon. Not all new, but a newly digitized pattern... sewing is still not something that I can easily do just yet.

Wollyonline BD1802, Lovely Basics for 48cm baby dolls

When I created the clothes for this pattern, I had just found these really soft knit fabrics and I knew immediately that I needed to make a sweet baby clothing pattern. Here it is, with clothes that look exactly like real baby clothes, just a little smaller. Making this pattern was a very fun time for me and looking at the photo makes me smile.

With this pattern you can make: 3 jackets, 2 rompers, 1 jumpsuit, a T-shirt, headband and booties.

Voordat ik aan dit patroon begon, had ik net heel zachte rekbare babystoffen gevonden. Ik weet nog dat ik in de winkel stond en meteen wist dat deze stoffen voor een echt baby patroon gebruikt moesten worden. Toen ik tussen mijn poppen de Chou Chou pop zag zitten was het 'klaar' dat was natuurlijk precies de juiste pop. Omdat ze groter is kon ik net echte babykleertjes maken, gewoon wat kleiner.

Het maken van deze kleertjes was heel leuk en als ik naar de foto's kijk word ik weer blij : )

I have been getting quite a few questions why there have been so very few patterns the last few months and some of you have been disappointed that the patterns have not returned just yet. I'm sorry for the delay.

In the photo above you can see why it's taking me so long to get any work done. This is what my shoulder looks like right now : ) I have a pretty blue-tape-covered right shoulder!

The injury in my shoulder started in March and is preventing me from working at the computer for long times and sewing for a longer time is completely out of the question.

Let's hope that the Airrosti treatment that I'm currently undergoing can solve the problem for once and for all because it's really getting old. I have to admit that it feels better now than it has in months : )

I would so love to start working again!

Ik krijg de laatste paar weken heel veel vragen waarom het zo lang duurt voordat er nieuwe patronen zijn want "Ik had het toch beloofd".... en "ik ben zo teleurgesteld". Het spijt me echt van de vertraging.

In de foto kun je zien waarom het allemaal langer duurt dan gepland. Zo ziet mijn rechtse schouder er op dit moment uit, een vrolijk blauw getapte schouder!

Deze blessure begon in maart vorig jaar en geeft me enorme problemen om lang achter de naaimachine of computer te zitten.

Laten we hopen dat de Airrosti behandeling, die ik op het moment volg, mijn schouder gaat genezen want ik heb het er toch wel een beetje mee gehad. Op dit moment voelt het beter dan het in maanden heeft gevoeld dus ik heb goede hoop : 0

Ik heb zoooooo'n zin om weer te beginnen!

Begin december, oh jee ik loop heel erg achter, kreeg ik een heel leuke email van Evelyne met prachtige foto's van het Ikea bedje waarvoor ze het Gratis Wollyonline Beddengoed patroon had gebruikt. Een vrolijk cadeautje voor haar dochter.

Mijn dochter is gek op rood en daarom is rood de hoofdkleur, straks als ze uit school komt zal ze zien wat de sint haar heeft gebracht ....ik ben benieuwd naar haar reactie .......; )
De slaapzak zal onder de kerstboom liggen daar had deze naaipiet geen tijd meer voor ;-)
